Basingstoke STW has been designated an SBI (Site of Biodiversity Interest) by Thames Water.
The C725 AMP 6 Basingstoke THP project was to provide advanced digestion sludge treatment by the introduction of a new thermal hydrolysis process (THP) and associated ancillary processes.
These processes produced bio gas to be utilised by combined heat and power (CHP) gas fired generating sets to generate electricity which would be used to provide electrical supplies to the existing Basingstoke STW and the new THP parasitic loads.
The programme was driven by the need to achieve ROCs accreditation of the engines by March 2017. Ideally this meant that all plant would be up and running; the site would be receiving and processing sludge imports, the THP would be in operation and digesters producing the gas required to run the engines.
