Herricks WTW is a new clean water filtration project located 40 miles north of Aberdeen. The location of the site was a major challenge for both operatives and deliveries — Herricks is in the middle of a forestry area which can only be accessed using forest track roads. Inclement weather was the norm all year, particularly in the winter months when roads were often closed due to very low temperatures and snow.
The plant filters and supplies potable drinking water into the cities of Aberdeen, Inverness and surrounding towns and villages. FSD undertook all the electrical installation on site, collaborating with the client’s engineering division to ensure full compliance of specifications.

A very high standard of workmanship was always maintained. The main risk to the project was the very tight programme — due to the location there were logistical issues of maintaining resources through the full cycle. FSD took the decision, in conjunction with the client, to work every second weekend which made for a harmonious team who could plan their time around a set working programme while also keeping travelling to a minimum.
Both Scottish Water and ESD were very vocal in their praise, acknowledging the challenges that had been tackled and the collaborative approach of the FSD team. The successful completion of Herricks has led to ESD asking FSD to tender for future projects.
